top tier scarlet ships according to me
reading/rereading detective conan as an adult gave me a whole new perspective on akai and Opened My Eyes. now that i have a very healthy and very normal obsession towards him i’ve also been scrutinizing all of his interactions with other characters, which gives us this akai ship ranking that no one asked for.
1. akai/amuro
god-tier ship that you can’t deny even if you don’t like it because what do you mean amuro’s was created with the sole purpose of being akai’s rival? and even named after the mortal enemy of the character akai was named after? i know every character in conan is six degrees separated from each other but the way akai and amuro are tragically bonded by the most twisted fate makes me lose my mind every time i think about it like, they’re the star crossed not-lovers who put romeo and juliet to shame. i call this ship “otp: i’m not gonna let anyone kill you because i’m gonna kill you myself” but really akai Doesn’t Care about amuro which amuses me so much because instead of one sided love aoyama gave us the ultimate one sided hate. which is so delicious. also obsessed with how amuro is usually calm and level-headed but loses his temper every time he’s around akai. this is how you know the ship is good.
2. akai/gin
okay look if there’s one person who could rival akai’s intelligence and skills it would be neither amuro or even shinichi but gin. like shinichi is arguably much smarter than akai but lacks the skills, while although amuro has both he always loses his cool and consequently loses his rationality which is why he’ll never win against akai. meanwhile gin is the top 3 brains in conan and is probably the next best sniper in the series after akai, so even though he’s never bested akai yet he’s the only one worthy of being called his rival. that said i don’t really ship them romantically but also fellas is it gay to call your lifelong archenemy koibito-san?
3. akai/akemi
yea i know very little is known about their relationship (as in what kind of boyfriend he was to her, what kind of dates they had) but judging from akemi’s personality i feel like they were, or at least would’ve made a super cute energetic-girlfriend-quiet-boyfriend couple… for some reason i had no memories of akemi’s last text message to akai until i reread the chapter again and now it’s driving me insane the same way matsuda’s final text to sato drove me insane. also the little detail about how akai as subaru picked up cooking because it reminds him of akemi and how he cooks often nowadays which shows how much he still thinks about her……. also for once let’s ignore the fact that they’re cousins neither of them actually knows ok.
4. akai/haibara
their relationship is very much drama material if you ask me lol. i think it’s bittersweet that one of akai’s biggest priorities right now is protecting haibara, and how he’s watching over her quietly without her really knowing because he’s not ready to properly face her yet. as subaru we at least get to see funny interactions that never would’ve happened between her and akai as his real self, like her criticizing his cooking snarkily and him being sarcastic in response. given haibara’s personality she’ll never see akai as a love interest, but in another universe i would’ve liked to see them help each other overcome their grief and heal their wounds in a way only they could and slowly grow closer as time goes.
4. akai/ran
i don’t really entertain this idea because ran is literally underage, but their fateful meetings in new york and in japan in the same manner would’ve had so much potential in a different story, or at least if the second meeting took place years later after ran has become a proper adult instead of months later. also they would’ve made an interesting pair if you take haibara seeing akemi in ran into account.
5. akai/shinichi
shinichi’s also a minor so like ran i don’t entertain this idea, but i do get excited whenever shinichi as conan partners up with akai to devise intricate out of this world plans that deceived even gin. i’m obsessed with the arguments about who’s smarter between them, but truthfully i’m fine either way because after all they’re the two silver bullets recognized by the organization (vermouth in shinichi’s case). also a little obsessed with the way akai calls conan bou-ya.
6. akai/kir
tbh ever since i read the kir arc back then i’ve thought that akai and kir would look so good together. they also complement each other so well not just skills wise but also their secret identity stuff and family background, so i think there’s a lot of things that they can only share with each other and other people would never understand. also fbi and cia? talk about a power couple.
7. akai/koumei
i know they literally have never met but i really hope to see them work together on a case one day, indirectly or not. koumei is sooooo smart it's sxc even though i questioned his look at first lmao. unfortunately for akai he’s six degrees separated from almost everyone by a tragedy but at least koumei isn’t as hung up on scotch’s passing, so there’d be room for a healthy and mature Adult communication lol
