well this is for songs released in 2021 anyway. according to my spotify wrapped my top song is leo by tacica which is true because i actually did listen to practically nothing but the song on repeat for over a month. also this year i finally got myself to watch sangatsu no lion and after making a playlist for all my favourite songs from animes adapted from umino chica sensei’s works i listened to that playlist only for a while!
anyways i won’t even deny how much i listened to my day - it’s my emotional support song what about it!! other than that the songs i loved this year really show that i’m all over the place lmao some are from dramas, some from my favourite japanese bands and then there’s a sprinkle of kpop and taylor.

ok look kikakoi reigned as my #1 drama of 2021 for the entire year until i finally watched konto. it took almost a whole year for the rest of drama to be subbed (i hate n*tflix’s subs but i will credit them for once for picking this up) and i’m so so so glad i waited because it’s just that good.
i’ve mentioned this in an older post and i think some of my friends already know this about me but i love stories that carry the themes of summer and final year of high school or uni. konto is neither of those, but it carries the exact sentiments that i love, which is about something precious that’s coming to an end. i am not embarrassed to admit that i cried more than 15 times throughout all the episodes!!!!!!! also i found out belatedly that konto’s writer is the same writer for honey & clover la drama. which explains a lot.
also ok while konto is THAT good i still want to talk about how great kikakoi and uchikare are. admittedly i started kikakoi solely for ryusei, but just the first episode was enough to convince me that it’s a drama i’ll remember for a long time. love love love the whole opposite attracts concept because it was done really well, and i’m still in love with the confession scene T_T love it when people do confession scenes in a way that’s very subtle yet still carries that couple’s personality. uchikare nailed the scene too even though romance was never really the highlight of the drama. i actually love uchikare because romance is not the highlight. i think it’s such a refreshing drama with healthy relationships, and i absolutely love the small small details that make all the characters feel real. also i really would like to see okada kenshi in charai characters more please.

well technically i watched a piece of your mind last year, but i only got to ep 5 and stopped there because i let other people’s opinions get to me. that was wrong of me because obviously my opinions are always better, and unlike what everyone says it’s one of the best kr dramas to ever exist. i get that it’s very slow, but given its main theme (dealing with grief) i think that kind of pace is needed. it’s really such a shame that tvn also let other people’s opinions get to them and cut the episodes down to 12 as a result because it ruined the plot and storytelling got messed up. friendship ended with tvn.
i didn’t expect to enjoy player this much but i actually really did like it a lot and was sad when i neared the end. i think player is what legend of the blue sea tried to be but failed miserably because 1) sbs, 2) lmh.
in all honesty i don’t think i will ever watch d.p. again (i’ll watch the second season though) but i really recommend this to everyone who can take the genre. also the funny scenes are really funny ok.

admittedly i’ve already watched sangatsu movies before but if i don’t remember much about them then it doesn’t count right!!
anyways hanataba is actually the kind of fic that i’ve always wanted to write. [spoilers ahead] i really love how it shows how a relationship grows and wilts and how realistic it is. i think the reason why i’m so satisfied with the ending is because they really wound up separating instead of having something that makes them fall in love with each other all over again. it’s a beautifully made movie and i love love love this line and the scene itself.
when omoi omoware was announced i was half excited and half disappointed because takumi isn’t the rio that i imagined in my head all these years lmfao but he did a really great imo! i was so relieved that it’s actually so much better than the previous two live adaptations from this mangaka lol also i need to know who suggested akaso eiji as inuoka because oh my god. he’s actually perfect and a literal inu?
also, if you’re a casual mcu enjoyer, i personally think that black widow is the only movie they released this year that’s worth checking out. nwh was great but it’s a lot of emotional manipulation and i personally dislike mcu’s spiderman!!!

ok look if both sangatsu and chihayafuru fell into the sea, i would bow my head to suetsugu sensei and thank her for all the exemplary feminism that she’s highlighted in her work, then throw the life buoy to sangatsu.
what i love the most about umino chica’s storywriting style is that sometimes she takes us on a long winding road with nice scenery to reach the destination, which is her actual message of the story. and she does it really well. sangatsu opens with us being introduced to rei, whose name means zero, as someone who is a shell of a person. but then the following episodes are so insanely funny that you question if someone got the genre wrong, but then the reality of it hits you out of nowhere, right in the face.

i read 5.5 books this year which is a great improvement compared to last year’s 2.25. ok goodbye tsugumi is a re-reread and what about it. i still love it all the same it’s just so perfect perfect. personally i don’t think kim jiyoung is much of a novel (it’s more like an essay but lots of feminism rants in between lol) (and now that i’ve read the book i think the movie did a great job filling in the gaps). it’s a fine read overall but then the ending??? mindblowing

first of all i would like to congratulate micchi because he managed to steal daisuke’s #1 place two years in a row. not to mention i met him through daisuke’s drama actually.
contrary to popular belief i did not adopt that many new sons this year ok. in fact out of the three new names here only one of them made it to my sheet. actually in hindsight i didn’t really adopt anyone because deep down i’m pining for my actual #1 son who’s gone to serve the country. personally i think the country should serve him.
