- taichi absentmindedly reading out the poems without even looking at the cards when his mind is elsewhere + taichi's super memory and the way he has all the poems memorized that he can tell which cards haven't been read out including the dead cards
- nikuman, tsukue and tsukube arguing before the competition and taichi getting angry and forbids them from using the word "datte (but)" also because when he was a kid that's what his mum taught him so that he wouldn't make excuses
- the "taichi's never had his card read out during luck of draws" jinx + taichi during the final match with fujisaki: "dear god, i don't mind if my card is never read out in my luck of draws, but please just this one time..."
- taichi being sure that chihaya wouldn't watch his match because arata is playing shinobu but chihaya comes to watch anyway > taichi losing his focus because chihaya is there "i need to win quickly so that chihaya can go watch arata's match" > taichi's train of thoughts during the match "i want to win in a game against chihaya once" > taichi trying after winning: "what are you doing? let's go watch arata" but chihaya, in tears: "taichi, you made it to class A"
- chihaya's poems: "inside a room isolated from the summer's heat, i feel bliss upon hearing your name" and "will i ever turn the corner and find you? i can only wait for a miracle or a dream"
- "suki-ya, chihaya. let's play karuta together."
- hanano giving taichi fermented squid guts instead of the expensive 100% success rate chocolate that she spent an hour queuing up for on valentine's day and confessing "i like you, i really like you. i want you to tell the person you like how you feel, too. please tell her."
- chihaya, in tears: "i want to see your smile again"
- taichi coming clean to chihaya about him hiding arata's glasses back when they were in 6th grade before he confesses
- "i like you, chihaya. i like your nails that you never grow out, your fingers, your hair, your mouth that you always open wide like an idiot, your face when you laugh... always, ever since we were kids" but not everything... i don't like who you become when you think of arata.
- "chihaya, do you think that i'm made out of stone or something?"
- arata's text message to chihaya that mirrors what taichi said to chihaya in their first year when they found out that arata quit karuta: "taichi will come back someday for sure, so let's get stronger and wait for him."
- "if there was no chihaya in the class i transferred to, taichi would, without a doubt... taichi would call out to me" cries forever

- obsessed with the parallels chihaya telling arata that the more she likes a card the faster she lets it go + taichi making peace with his feelings for chihaya and letting her go
- also obsessed with tachi wakare being the poem/card associated with taichi when it's about pining + tare o kamo the poem chihaya was listening to when taichi found her in high school when it's about old friends who are no longer around

- when i must hide these burning feelings, / i feel as though my body is on fire with ibuki mugwort (fujiwara no sanekata ason)
